Following Jewish Onliner Investigation, UCSD Erases Links of Anti-Israel Course and Professor

Professor Shaista Patel's page has disappeared from the university website, as did the syllabus of her anti-Israel ethnic studies course

Following Jewish Onliner’s discovery that a mandatory ethnic studies course at UC San Diego teaches that Israel commits “sophicide,” Professor Shaista Patel’s profile has been removed from both the university’s Ethnic Studies Department website and her verified UC San Diego academic profile on academia.edu. The original syllabus has also been taken offline, with it now displaying an error page.

University Non-Response

In response to a Jewish Onliner inquiry asking whether UC San Diego planned to review or cancel the course, a university spokesperson provided only a brief statement: “Thank you for reaching out. UC San Diego is aware of the concerns and the appropriate offices have been notified.”

Once it became clear that Professor Shaista Patel’s pages had been removed from the university’s website, Jewish Onliner followed up with the school requesting clarification regarding her current relationship with the university.

The university did not respond to the second request for comment by the time of publication.
