Unmasking the Terror Ties Behind the Global Sumud Flotilla
The Global Sumud Flotilla to Gaza departs in late summer, with delegations from 40+ countries, yet an investigation reveals its members appear tied to designated terror groups like Hamas, PIJ, & PFLP
The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) is set to depart from Spain and Tunisia at the end of August and early September, with delegations from over 40 countries, including the U.S., Malaysia, Brazil, and Italy. It boasts as the largest civilian voyage to Gaza since 2007. While the flotilla presents itself as a peace mission, an investigation by Jewish Onliner has revealed that several members of the steering committee have met with officials from U.S.-designated terror groups like Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), and The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), and have given money to Hamas-linked bodies in Gaza.

Muhammad Nadir Al-Nuri's Ties to Hamas
Muhammad Nadir Al-Nuri, a steering committee member and founder of the NGO Cinta Gaza Malaysia (CGM), has funded several projects for Hamas-linked bodies in Gaza, including a Directorate building for the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Social Development.
At the inauguration for the building, Al-Nuri was photographed alongside Ghazi Hamad, a senior member of the Hamas politburo, who recently stated that the wave of Western nations recognizing a Palestinian state is the result of “the fruits” of Hamas’ October 7, 2023 massacre.

In 2021, Al-Nuri’s organization reportedly donated $1 million to Gaza’s Civil Defense to help establish a civil defense headquarters in Gaza. This organization has been found to have ties to Hamas terrorism, with the IDF revealing documents showing that Mahmoud Zabar Tafesh Bassal, the spokesperson for Gaza’s Civil Defense, is an active member of Hamas’ military wing. Bassal has also issued false statements to international media since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas War, further cementing the Civil Defense’s role in Hamas’ disinformation apparatus.
Wael Nawar’s Ties to the PFLP and Hamas
Steering committee member, Wael Nawar, has associated with officials from Hamas, the PFLP, and PIJ. For example, Nawar, who also served as the coordinator and spokesperson for the Sumud Convoy, took part in a "media symposium" in the Tunisian city of Sfax in May 2025. The event featured Abed Al-Zarii, the Tunisia representative for the PFLP, who affirmed the PFLP’s full support for the Sumud Convoy.
Nawar's organization, the Joint Action Coordination for Palestine, also attended a meeting in May 2025 in Tunisia, where leaders from Hamas, PFLP, and Fatah met with Tunisian political leaders. Nawar told Sputnik, a Russian state-funded media outlet, that "Tunisians today welcome the Palestinian resistance and support its narrative of the situation in Rafah," with "Palestinian resistance" being a euphemism for terrorist groups.

In addition, Nawar was photographed meeting with Hamas officials such as Youssef Hamdan, a Hamas representative in Algeria, and Ahmed Abd al-Hadi, a Hamas representative in Lebanon. He was also seen posing with Ihsan Attaya, a leader of PIJ in Lebanon. Nawar’s social media also shows him attending events in Lebanon for the funeral of the former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, where he was photographed posing next to flags of Hezbollah, PFLP, and PIJ.

Marouan Ben Guettaia’s Ties to Hamas in Algeria
Similarly, Marouan Ben Guettaia, another steering committee member, has also been photographed meeting with Youssef Hamdan, the Hamas representative in Algeria, where they reportedly discussed “ways to support relief and field efforts aimed at breaking the blockade.” These actions and meetings strengthen concerns that the flotilla may be more aligned with advancing the aims of terrorist groups than delivering humanitarian assistance.

Saif Abukeshek's Membership in Hamas Front Groups
Saif Abukeshek, another member of the steering committee, also has troubling ties to Hamas-linked organizations in Europe. He serves on the General Secretariat of the Popular Conference for Palestinians Abroad and is a member of the Coordinating Office of the Palestinian Initiative in Europe for National Action—both of which operate as Hamas front organizations.
Behind the Mask of the Global Sumud Flotilla
The connections between key members of the Global Sumud Flotilla and U.S.-designated terrorist groups raise serious concerns about its true purpose. This flotilla is yet another example of NGOs and seemingly humanitarian organizations operating as supportive fronts for the political agendas and activities of terrorist groups. As global rallies in support of the flotilla approach, it’s crucial to consider whether backing such an initiative could inadvertently empower terrorism and escalate conflict.
