Tucker Carlson Platformed Foreign Agent Who Represented Nigerian Governor Allegedly Linked to Persecution of Christians
Tucker Carlson recently interviewed Robert Amsterdam—without disclosing his representation of a Nigerian governor allegedly linked to Christian persecution and foreign agent work for Venezuela
When Tucker Carlson featured international lawyer Robert Amsterdam on his November 7, 2025 show to discuss Christian persecution in Nigeria, he introduced him as someone “defending Christians around the world.”
What Carlson failed to disclose was that Amsterdam also represented a Nigerian governor whose administration allegedly oversaw mass violence against Christians by Fulani militias. According to the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law, these militias were responsible for 87% of Nigerian Christian deaths in 2025.
Furthermore, investigative journalist Joel Mowbray revealed that Amsterdam is a FARA-registered agent who reportedly earned over $4 million from Venezuela’s Maduro regime
The Client at the Center of Controversy
Mowbray revealed that Amsterdam’s Nigerian client was Nasir El-Rufai, who served as governor of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023. During the Tucker Carlson interview, Amsterdam admitted to representing Nigerian officials but never disclosed his client’s identity or the controversial circumstances surrounding El-Rufai’s governorship during massive Christian killings.
The Scale of Fulani Violence Under El-Rufai’s Watch
Fulani militants killed 6,277 Christians in the first seven months of 2025 alone, according to the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law. During El-Rufai’s tenure as governor (2015-2023), Kaduna State became ground zero for these attacks, with Southern Kaduna particularly devastated.
The Southern Kaduna People’s Union reported in 2020 that at least 100 villages came under Fulani occupation during El-Rufai’s governorship. The pattern was systematic: attacks on Christian communities, followed by government-imposed curfews that critics say provided cover for further violence, and arrests of victims who protested while attackers went unprosecuted.
An independent American fact-finding mission concluded after five years: “The campaign of violence constitutes a calculated, current and long-running genocide against Christian communities.” Since 2009, the toll has been devastating: 125,009 Christians killed, 19,100 churches destroyed, 1,100 Christian communities eradicated, 20,000 square miles of Christian land seized, and 12 million Christians displaced.
The On-Air Denial
On Tucker Carlson’s show, Amsterdam directly contradicted these findings: “This is not targeted at Christians. There are probably an equal or more number of Muslim deaths.”
The documented evidence shows otherwise. Christians account for 125,009 deaths compared to 60,000 Muslims since 2009—a more than 2-to-1 ratio. In 2025, Christians are being killed at a rate of 32 per day, or one every hour.
Amsterdam deflected blame: “Believe it or not, you can blame some of this on the French... Libya blew apart, a massive amount of arms went down to Boko Haram.” He praised Nigerian officials, calling one “a lovely individual and caring and universally respected in terms of religious issues.”
The Venezuela Connection
In addition to his findings regarding Nigeria, Joel Mowbray also revealed that Amsterdam is “still an active, FARA-registered agent of Venezuela,” and that he “earned $4M+ in just the first four months of the engagement from the Maduro regime, starting in January 2020.”
Venezuela under Maduro has become a primary source of destabilization for the United States. A Congressional Research Service report from 2022 describes “the criminal regime of indicted drug trafficker Nicolás Maduro” as leading “one of the largest cocaine trafficking networks in the world,” contributing to narcotics flooding U.S. markets.
Venezuelan criminal organizations, particularly the Tren de Aragua gang, have established operations in multiple American states. Venezuela also provides safe haven for U.S.-designated terrorist groups and maintains military cooperation with Russia, China, and Iran.
According to Mowbray’s examination of the FARA filing, “Amsterdam was engaged to persuade the U.S. to ‘mitigate or remove sanctions’ on Maduro’s Venezuela.” The contract was officially signed by the Attorney General of Venezuela, since the U.S. at that time did not recognize Maduro as legitimate.
Tucker Carlson had recently broadcast a segment in late October 2025 defending Maduro’s regime. Tucker stated Venezuela was “socially conservative” because “gay marriage is banned, abortion is banned, sex changes for transgenderism is banned.”
A Pattern Across Multiple Regimes
Venezuela and Nigeria are not isolated cases. FARA documents show Amsterdam has built a career representing authoritarian regimes. In October 2015, Amsterdam registered as an agent for the Republic of Turkey, receiving an initial payment of $100,000 and ultimately earning nearly $1.3 million for campaigns targeting exiled cleric Fethullah Gülen on behalf of President Erdogan’s government.
