The Hague Group’s Terror Links Casts Doubt about its Commitment to International Law
The Left-Wing Alliance is Aligned with Extremist Elements While Claiming to Defend Justice
On January 31, 2025, a coalition of nine nations—Belize, Bolivia, Colombia, Cuba, Honduras, Malaysia, Namibia, Senegal, and South Africa—gathered in The Hague for a meeting hosted by Progressive International, an international political organization that unites and mobilizes progressive left-wing activists and groups, to establish “The Hague Group.” Framed as an effort to uphold international law, in reality, the initiative is the latest example of how legal and diplomatic mechanisms are being weaponized to delegitimize Israel.
Participants in the meeting including Ahmed Alnaouq, the co-founder of the Hamas-front group, We Are Not Numbers. Also present was Namibia’s Minister of Justice, Yvonne Dausab, who was recently commended by the Hamas terrorist group for preventing weapons from reaching Israel. While the The Hague Group claims to be pursuing justice, its selective focus on Israel—and its associations with extremist elements—suggests a politicized effort to erode Israel’s legitimacy rather than uphold international law.
Progressive International’s Support for Terror Groups
Progressive International, which describes its mission as “uniting, organizing, and mobilizing the world’s progressive forces,” has repeatedly expressed support for terrorist groups. In November 2023, it published excerpts from a Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) authored program advocating "armed struggle" against Israel. In September 2024, the organization praised former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, stating, “Israel may have killed a leader, but it has not killed the resistance.” In October 2021, it condemned Israel for designating PFLP-affiliated groups such as Al Haq and Defense for Children International-Palestine as terrorist organizations, despite clear evidence of their ties to terrorism.
The Involvement of Hamas-affiliated Ahmed Alnaouq
One of the speaker’s at the meeting, Ahmed Alnaouq is the Outreach and Advocacy Officer for Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor (EuroMed) and the co-founder We Are Not Numbers. He also formerly served as a media officer at the Palestinian Mission in the UK. EuroMed Board Chairs have appeared on a 2013 list published by Israel that detail Hamas “operatives and institutions” in Europe. Furthermore, EuroMed appears in the EU’s transparency register, which lists entities that carry out influence operations on EU policy and decision-making processes.

An investigation by investigative social media outfit Gnasher Jew revealed Alnaouq has used social media to spread antisemitic narratives and promote terrorist propaganda. His posts include Holocaust comparisons of Israel to Nazi Germany, and calls for the eradication of Zionism.

Alnaouq’s family also has deep ties to Hamas. His brother, Ayman Alnaouq, was a Hamas militant who joined the group in 2006 and became a member of its military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, before being killed by the IDF in 2014. Another brother, Muhammad Alnaouq, worked in Hamas’ Ministry of Endowment and Religious Affairs and made several social media posts the October 7 Hamas massacre. Despite these links, Alnaouq has been positioned as a "human rights advocate" in Western media, demonstrating how extremist figures are often repackaged as legitimate voices in the ongoing campaign against Israel.

Namibia’s Role and the Broader Diplomatic Offensive Against Israel
Also speaking at the event was Namibian Justice Minister Yvonne Dausab, who has been vocal in her opposition to Israel. She was commended by Hamas after blocking a shipment of weapons to Israel, a move that aligns with Hamas’ broader strategy to cut off military support for the country. Her participation in The Hague Group reinforces the growing alignment between certain Global South governments and groups that seek to isolate Israel on the world stage.
The formation of the Hague Group is another effort to isolate Israel, restrict its ability to defend itself, and erode its legitimacy on the world stage. Through coordinated legal attacks and diplomatic pressure, The Hague Group is simply the latest attempt to weaponize international law against Israel while giving a free pass to those who seek its destruction.
