Senior ICRC Official in Gaza Attended PFLP Events, Called for Terror Leader’s Release
Amal El-Eweiny, Adviser to the Head of Mission of the ICRC in Gaza, also met with a Hamas founder

A new investigation by Jewish Onliner has found that Amal El-Eweiny, a senior International Committee of the Red Cross official in Gaza, attended pro-terror events hosted by the U.S.-designated terror group, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and met with one of the founding members of Hamas. Her previous position, as the head of the ICRC office in Khan Yunis, which she held for 37 years, is alleged to be the highest attainable for a non-foreigner in the Gaza Strip. An article from September 2024 mentions her serving as Adviser to the Head of Mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the Gaza Strip, suggesting that she had transitioned to this role from her previous position.

These revelations follow growing criticism of the ICRC in how it has handled exchanges of Israeli hostages from captivity by the Hamas terror group in Gaza. This investigation highlights further evidence of the warm relationship between humanitarian organizations in the Gaza Strip with terror groups, calling into question their neutrality and impartiality.

Amal El-Eweiny’s Ties to the PFLP
A deeper investigation into Amal El-Eweiny, described as a “pillar” of the ICRC who has worked with them for over 35 years, reveals her links to the PFLP, a group notorious for orchestrating terror attacks that have killed both Israelis and Americans. Photos from her Facebook show her participating in PFLP events while prominently displaying the ICRC logo.

In 2016, El-Eweiny attended a meeting with a leadership delegation from the PFLP at the Red Cross Headquarters to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the arrest of PFLP leader Ahmad Sa’adat. Sa’adat, responsible for the 2001 assassination of Israeli Tourism Minister Rehavam Ze’vi, was praised by El-Eweiny at the meeting, where she referred to his arrest as “a day that cannot be forgotten.” At the meeting, El-Eweiny is quoted as reaffirming the ICRC's focus on assisting Palestinian “prisoners,” stating that "The issue of prisoners is the most significant and sensitive issue for the work of the ICRC." She then expressed hope for the “immediate release of all prisoners, particularly the Secretary-General of the Front, Comrade Ahmad Sa'adat.”

Meeting with a Founding Hamas Member
In 2009, El-Eweiny was part of a Red Cross delegation that met with Issa Al-Nashar, a founding member of Hamas and the then-mayor of Rafah. Al-Nashar openly praised the ICRC’s contributions to Rafah and its cooperation with the Hamas-led municipality.

ICRC’s Role in Hamas Propaganda Spectacles
These revelations about El-Eweiny’s ties to terror groups are part of a larger pattern of concerning behavior by the ICRC, as seen during the release of Israeli hostages that Hamas has turned into propaganda spectacles. In one exchange, Hamas fighters were seen standing on top of ICRC ambulances, while in another, ICRC personnel were on stage at a Hamas propaganda ceremony, signing documents presented by the group. The exchanges involved parading female Israeli hostages in front of jeering crowds in an unseemly and undignified manner.

UPDATE January 30, 2025: Following the release of this investigation, El-Eweiny has set her Facebook profile to private.
