I wonder if finally - after decades of wash rinse repeat - the Israeli people are ready to get serious about the death penalty for all convicted killers.
It would be an interesting discussion, since many Jewish lives would be saved if these killers are no longer available for hostage “deals”, thereby disincentivizing the taking of hostages in the first place, plus they would be free to kill again (even not including Oct 7, hundreds died as a direct result of the Jibril and Shalit deals).
As it was with other new situations like the use of electricity on Shabbat, Halacha can be applied by serious rabbanim in these cases as well .

I don’t know the details of that particular case - perhaps he had served his full sentence - but it seems the Americans aren’t too pleased.
