Fake AI Image of Hezbollah Capturing Kiryat Shmona Goes Viral on X
An AI-generated image depicting Hezbollah capturing Kiryat Shmona achieves 99.2 million potential reach on X, amplified by a network of non-U.S.-based accounts

A fabricated AI-generated image purporting to depict Hezbollah forces capturing the Israeli city of Kiryat Shmona generated a total potential reach of approximately 99.2 million across X, amplified by a network of predominantly non-U.S.-based accounts.
According to a social media analysis conducted by Jewish Onliner tracking posts containing the key terms “Hezbollah” AND “Kiryat Shmona” on X from March 30-31, 2026, the disinformation campaign continued spreading despite platform Community Notes and involved accounts based in Russia, Mexico, Pakistan, Indonesia, South Africa, and Turkey.
Prominent figures including former Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein shared the false image without verification, lending credibility to demonstrably fabricated content at a critical moment in regional conflict escalation.

The Disinformation Network: Top Amplifiers
Jewish Onliner’s analysis identified approximately 16,100 posts containing the keywords “Hezbollah” and “Kiryat Shmona” during the study period, generating a total potential reach of approximately 99.2 million and roughly 32,500 interactions. This represented a significant amplification of a demonstrably false narrative within a compressed timeframe.
The Community Note appended to the image correctly identified it as fabricated, stating: “There is no evidence of a ground incursion or capture.” Despite this correction, the false imagery retained substantial viral momentum, indicating critical vulnerabilities in content moderation and platform enforcement against mass disinformation campaigns.
Top Amplifiers & Geographic Breakdown
The top amplifiers driving the campaign’s reach included:
Mir Mohammad Alikhan (@MirMAKOfficial), a Pakistan-based account
Truth_teller (@Truthtellerftm), a Mexico-based account displaying a Russian flag that later changed its location to appear that it is based in the United States
SW News - SOFT WAR NEWS (@SoftWarNews), an Indonesia-based account
RKM (@rkmtimes), a South Asian-based account
Mehmet Vefa Dag (@AFRICANDEMOC), a South Africa-based Cape Town mayoral candidate
The combined reach of these accounts demonstrates how a small network of high-follower foreign accounts could overcome platform moderation to distribute fabricated content at scale.

Geographic Breakdown
The geographic distribution of accounts posting the keywords “Hezbollah” and “Kiryat Shmona” reveals what appears to be a sophisticated, multi-country disinformation operation.
Non-U.S.-based accounts dominated the campaign, generating 64.1% of the total volume, with posts originating from countries including Turkey, France, United Kingdom, India, Pakistan, South Africa, Japan, and Spain, demonstrating a coordinated amplification strategy that deliberately leveraged a geographically dispersed global network.
Implications
The dominance of non-U.S. accounts combined with evidence of geographic obfuscation, suggests that disinformation targeting Israel has evolved into a sophisticated, multi-country infrastructure designed to evade platform detection and enforcement.
The willingness of prominent American figures such as Jill Stein to amplify unverified claims without independent verification compounds platform failures and suggests that Western information ecosystems remain vulnerable to coordinated international disinformation attacks, particularly when those attacks align with existing partisan narratives.

We know for a fact that the now-decapitated Iranian Islamist terrorist regime built these proxy nodes—better known as Hamas and Hezbollah—and has supported many other subversive NGOs across the European landscape that promote Islamism and radical Islamist ideology, often intertwined with Marxist ideological structures that have coexisted with political Islam since the post-World War II era. One by one, these NGOs will now either implode or find themselves reached by the long arm of Secretary of State Marco Rubio and his brilliant teams at the DOJ and the U.S. Treasury.
