Head of Geneva-based Human Rights Group Admits Family Ties to Hamas
Ramy Abdu, the head of the Hamas-tied Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, revealed on X that his brother-in-law was a senior Hamas official
Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, a Geneva-based anti-Israel human rights organization, is facing renewed scrutiny over its chairman Ramy Abdu’s ties to Hamas. Abdu, who has been sanctioned by Israel for supporting Hamas activities, inadvertently revealed yesterday that his brother-in-law was a senior Hamas member and former high-ranking UNRWA official while announcing his death on X.
While Abdu has positioned himself as an advocate for human rights, his longstanding affiliations with Hamas leadership raise serious questions about his organization’s credibility. Given that Hamas is designated as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union, and other governments, the issue is not just one of political bias but whether Euro-Med Monitor serves as a propaganda front for Hamas rather than a legitimate human rights group.
A Family Tied to Hamas Leadership
The death of Muhammad Daoud Ismail al-Jamassi (Abu Obeida), Abdu’s brother-in-law, underscores Hamas’s influence within his immediate family. According to intelligence sources, Muhammad al-Jamassi was not just a Hamas member but a senior figure within its political bureau—the movement’s highest decision-making body.
Al-Jamassi also served as the head of UNRWA’s engineering department in Gaza, a position that gave him significant control over infrastructure projects and international aid funds.
In 2017, Muhammad Daoud Ismail al-Jamassi (Abu Obeida) was removed from his role at UNRWA after it was revealed he had been elected to Hamas’s Politburo, alongside UNRWA union chief Suhail al-Hindi and Yahya Sinwar, Hamas’s former leader in Gaza.
Ramy Abdu’s Personal Hamas Connections
Abdu’s ties to Hamas extend beyond his family. The Israeli government officially designated him as Hamas-affiliated in 2013, raising concerns about his role within the organization. He was placed under sanctions for supporting Hamas's activities.

Additionally, Abdu is documented meeting with Hamas political bureau leader and former Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh, further cementing his ties to the group’s leadership.
He has also publicly claimed to be childhood friends with Assad Abu Sharia, the founder and leader of the Mujahideen Brigades—a Hamas-affiliated terrorist group that played a key role in the kidnapping of the Bibas children during the October 7 massacre.

Euro-Med Monitor’s Selective Advocacy and Misinformation
Despite claiming to be an impartial human rights group, Euro-Med Monitor has failed to address Hamas’s human rights abuses while focusing almost exclusively on condemning Israel. Hamas has been accused of extrajudicial killings, torturing Palestinian detainees, and severe restrictions on free speech, yet the organization remains largely silent on these violations. Even Palestinian activists have criticized Euro-Med Monitor for ignoring Hamas’s oppressive rule in Gaza, fueling concerns that it acts as a political tool rather than a neutral watchdog.
Beyond selective advocacy, Euro-Med Monitor has also been criticized for promoting conspiracy theories, including false accusations that Israel engages in organ harvesting and uses advanced “vaporization weapons” against Palestinians. These widely debunked claims echo historical blood libels and further damage the organization’s credibility.
Given Ramy Abdu’s designation as Hamas-affiliated, his brother-in-law’s senior leadership role in Hamas, and the organization's history of spreading unverified claims, Euro-Med Monitor’s neutrality remains highly questionable.
Good grief. It just gets worse and worse 🤦♀️🤯
