I understand why we separate Hamas from “the Palestinians,” but the truth is there are a material number of Palestinians in Gaza and J&S who support Hamas, including Oct 7. Hamas are not alien invaders from another solar system; they’re faction of Palestinians. Yet, I realize, telling the truth can be used to support the collective punishment argument, not to mention the genocide canard. We nonetheless need to acknowledge reality in order to disrupt the simple oppressor-victim narrative that consumes the discussion, assuming it’s not too late.
Not ONE Palestinian provided information and claimed the massive monetary award and protection Israel offered for the whereabouts of the hostages. They celebrated October 7 and showed up in droves for those macabre Hamas hostage return pantomimes.
Polling in the last 3 years continues to show that Palestinians support Hamas.
Gaza is a closed society and must be viewed through that lens. Nothing happens there, goes in and out of Gaza, not people, not information without Hamas say so. Crossing Hamas is deadly as evidenced by the recent public executions of Gazans accused of collaborating with Israel.
But even so, we are looking at a society that is radicalised by Hamas’ version of jihadi Jew hatred. The sooner Westerners - like those especially in the anti-Israel, antisemitic, anti- Zionist pro-Palestinian groups - regard themselves as ‘post-religious’. This absolutely blinds them to the reality and the history of Arab/Soviet-founded Jew hatred. It is scriptural to them.
It is not possible to truly understand Israel’s position geopolitically without this dimension. It is utter Western arrogance on the part of the pro-Palestinian movement to ignore it and to continue viewing Gazans as these agency-free perpetual victims who seek only peace and a homeland. This is simply untrue.
Gazans are not these innocent benighted unicorns they are made out to be by the flotilla fools. They voted in Hamas, they continue to approve of and support Hamas, their homes contain copies of Mein Kampf and the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. The Hamas Charter explicitly states it pursues the annihilation of not just Israel but Jews. Not ‘Zionists’, Jews. Kindergarteners in Gaza act out plays involving stabbing and killing Jews.
Gaza will need to be deradicalised the way Japan was after WW2. Israel remains on the bleeding edge of global jihad. The pro-Pals obdurately refuse to visualise what this means for the West. Sharia law and totalitarianism and/or theocratic Mullah reign (i.e. the object of Hamas’s charter) is ignored. So too is the fate of the red/green alliance after the 1979 revolution in Iran where the red side were pitched off the top of tall buildings, for example, once Khomeini seized control.
If they won’t look at the facts, won’t believe what the likes of Hamas has clearly set out in its mission statement and won’t learn from a history of antisemitism that spans Millenia and of which anti-Zionism is only the latest 21st century iteration, they are lost and will wake up only when they find themselves alongside the Jews in the same death camps.
It's impossible to look at the facts. They cannot be processed. The notion that the perceived oppressed, exploited, downtrodden party is actually the perpetrator is largely beyond comprehension by Western thinking. Palestinians have told us every way humanly possible that their cause is not sovereignty for Palestinians but no sovereignty for Jews -- on any borders. Yet the progressive mind cannot, will not hear what they're saying. The cognitive dissonance is overwhelming, and we simply cannot process it. The consequence is exactly what we now have.
