Exclusive: UCLA's Students for Justice in Palestine Chapter to Host Apparent Member of Terror Group Today

Later today, Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at UCLA is set to host a Zoom event featuring Hadeel Shatara, Jewish Onliner has learned.
Shatara serves as a coordinator for Samidoun, according to a 2022 article on its website. Samidoun is designated as a terrorist entity by Canada, Israel, Germany, and the United States for serving as a front group for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) — also a designated terrorist organization in the U.S. since 1997.
Her current role in Samidoun is unclear. However, in July 2024, Shatara was reportedly arrested and imprisoned by Israeli authorities upon returning to Israel from Jordan. She was released in January 2025 as part of a temporary ceasefire arrangement between Israel and Hamas. Moreover, Shatara continues to speak at Samidoun events, as recently as April 2025.

Beyond her role in Samidoun, Shatara is an administrator of the graduate program at Birzeit University in the West Bank. According to the Daily Wire, Birzeit University has longstanding ties to Hamas and other terrorist groups. The student government is dominated by Hamas-affiliated blocs, and the campus frequently hosts events celebrating these groups, including parades and displays of mock weapons.
Hanan Ashrawi, chairwoman of the university's board, has denied reports of Hamas's October 7 massacre and has praised figures associated with Hezbollah and Hamas. Over 140 students and staff members have been jailed by Israeli authorities on terrorism-related charges, the Daily Wire reported. Birzeit students have also reportedly attacked the German ambassador and have been involved in money laundering to fund terrorist operations. These ties have sparked concerns about ongoing collaborations between Birzeit and several U.S. universities.
